Kilkanen’s New Factory is Officially Inaugurated – The New Factory Enables Future Growth
Kilkanen's new factory in Vaasa was officially inaugurated in April 2022. The factory has been running from the end of the year 2021. The factory is the biggest investment in the history of Kilkanen and Leinolat Group and it is a part of the Wärtsilä Sustainable Technology Hub and the energy industry ecosystem being built at the harbor are in Vaasa.
– Everything went well during the construction phase as well as during the move. Our personnel have been the most flexible. We were able to keep the manufacturing up and running despite the move and with the help of our partners the project was finished in budget and on time, says Jouni Kilkanen, the long-term CEO of Kilkanen.
Kilkanen Looks towards the Future
Kilkanen has an extensive know-how in machining, and they will use this know-how to improve the company even further. The new factory is again a big step forward on the path of Kilkanen, but more is yet to come.
With decades worth of experience Kilkanen manufactures flywheels and other critical components needed in industries. Another large step and a big change took place in 2020 when Kilkanen acquired the KOLB engine block machining center and parts of the engine block operations from Wärtsilä. Now they want to take things even further.
– We use our extensive know-how when we develop our range of products and services to our customers. We focus, for example, in products related to large engines, says Pasi Pieniluoma, Sourcing and Key Account Manager of Kilkanen.
– We already manufacture parts and components for cylinder heads, and we also have an extensive experience in manufacturing other components related to machines and devices. We have a solid foundation of know-how which we are now using to expand our offering to our customers. This new factory together with our wide range of modern machining centers enables us to offer even more challenging products and services.
From Product Development to Finished Products
Kilkanen has 5-axis machining centers which are extremely efficient in manufacturing demanding components. Kilkanen has gathered a solid manufacturing experience on technically demanding components by helping customers in different industries in the development and optimization of the component to be manufactured.
– Product development is essential for the development of the professionalism. We think that it is important to master the whole manufacturing process from the development phase to the finished product. Product development is a part of our range of services, when we together with the customer develop the production processes for the serial production.
Together with the development of the know-how of the personnel, Kilkanen invests in new and efficient machining centers on a continuous basis. Kilkanen is known as a trustworthy partner, who delivers what is promised.
